A nine-year-old says he wants to write a book to inspire other children and suddenly the room is talking about leadership, corruption, and what stories can do to a country. We’re joined by students from Hebziba Bilingual School who come in with big ideas and even bigger questions, and we guide them through what it really means to start a writing journey that goes beyond schoolwork.

We dig into creative writing fundamentals in plain language: why books are “windows to the world,” how imagination works, and how strong storytelling activates the five senses so readers can smell a scene, feel a place, and stay emotionally hooked. We also get practical about voice and persona, the difference between being grammatically correct and being powerfully clear, and how Nigerian English, dialect, and Pidgin English carry culture in ways literal translation can’t.

Then we shift into the real-world side of authorship: publishing basics, book marketing, Amazon as a distribution channel, targeted promotion, and what “bestseller” actually measures. We end with a concrete assignment for every aspiring young author: write the introduction first, tell your story in your own words, and don’t hand your creativity over to AI before you’ve built your voice. If you care about raising confident writers or becoming one yourself, subscribe, share this with a parent or teacher, and leave a review with the question you want us to tackle next.
