S1 Ep. 22 Is History a friend or a foe?
All things are wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear content with hearing. 9What has been will be again, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. 10Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new”? It has already existed in the ages before us.… Ecclesiastes 1:9
There is this sense of wonder mixed with humility each time I come to see that our being here on earth is not new and what we see happening around us is not new, but strangely a good number of us have not come to appreciate this, and somehow we make the same old mistakes.
We are surrounding by huge historical data warehouse that avails us with great information source for us to glean from and not repeat the mistakes from the past, but somehow we still make those mistakes.
In this episode of the Word Café, the crux of my thought is a question that bothers on History, if it a friend or a foe.
History is one phenomenon that clearly has all of us as players and somehow we all have a part to play in history consciously or not. It is a product of time and we measure our activities and give meaning to our journey here on the scale of time.
